Maybe we need to turn fisheries management over to Fortune magazine.
The latest issue of Fortune magazine contains the article “How the World will Work in 2080.” Among the predictions:
“The Oceans: When tuna prices spiked in 2035, the world finally gets serious about species depletion and bans all commercial fishing. There is some cheating, but a multinational sea force does an effective job of policing. All fish for consumption is farmed; sport fishing is still allowed.”
If our fishery managers performed an unbiased cost/benefit analysis of commercial and recreational fishing, even they could arrive at the obvious conclusion without waiting 30 years.
