Fish Deep, Run Far, Eat Well
Calm seas in the forecast; might be a good week to try some tips from the August issue of FS.
No better time to fish the deep water than summer. Calm seas make it feasible to fish bottom in 700 feet or greater, where wild fish like the queen snapper (featured on the cover of the August issue) reside. Check out page 44, “Deep Treasure,” for the ins and outs on rigging to fish the deep reefs. Some anglers prefer to use electric reel setups, while other fish braided line and deep-jigs on high-speed conventional outfits.
Another fishery that becomes viable when the winds are 5 knots or less is long-range tuna fishing. On the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of Florida, are many species of tuna.
