Best Flounder Fishing in Years
Flounder experts say excess rain that muddied water may have benefited stocks by keeping commercials in check.
If you haven’t heard, flounder fishing in lower St. Augustine has been off the wall lately. Savvy flatfish vets and neophytes alike seemed to limit out with ease.
A few old-timers attribute the great bite to the fact that muddy water has hindered commercial flounder giggers. Many say the giggers, who know no limits with the proper paperwork, severely thin flatfish stocks. Frequently to a point where the family-level hook-and-line return isn’t worth the effort or time spent.
Right now, though, fishing is good according to reports coming into the Florida Sportsman office. And, some flounder-loving locals are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping for more rain.
