Observe the New Boca Grande Pass Fishing Rules
Three-month restrictions passed last year go into effect Friday, April 1.
In 2004, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission approved measures for the popular Boca Grande Pass recreational tarpon fishery, designed to reduce user conflicts in the pass. The laws, which limit the number of rods that you can fish to three per vessel, were also proposed to decrease the amount of terminal and breakaway gear lost on bottom of the pass by anglers.
To help reduce “fishing” debris, the new rule prohibits use of breakaway gear in the pass during April, May and June. The state defines breakaway gear as: “any bob, float, weight, lure or spoon that is affixed to a fishing line or hook with wire, line, rubber bands, plastic ties or other fasteners designed to break off when a fish is caught.”
