Mining Silver Stripes and Nuggets
Surf fishers traded sandfleas and shrimp for black drum and pompano along beaches from Fort Pierce to Hobe Sound. The bite, which coincided with a water temperature rise, caught several anglers off guard—particularly those angling for whiting and small blues.
Size-wise, both species satisfied most surf anglers. Drum seemed to average in the 21-inch range and many pompano came in around 14 inches. Will the bite resume after this cold front loosens its grip? No one knows for sure, but a few Jensen Beach fishermen believe it will.
