The Bimini Isles have long been a popular cruising and fishing area for Florida boaters. Just over 40 miles east of South Florida, this cluster of Bahamas islands overlooks fantastic coral reefs and the deep, fish-rich Gulf Stream. Bimini Customs officials can be contacted at, (242) 347-3100. They are generally open from 8 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.

Cruising permits are required, which cost $150 for vessels 35 feet and under, or $300 for vessels 36 feet and larger. The permit is good for two visits within 90 days. Each visitor needs to bring a passport and cash. Keep in mind that the Bahamas has its own fishery and maritime laws, which are rather convoluted. They also have strict rules on firearms.

Bimini Sands is primarily an exclusive resort for Bimini Sands Condo owners. However, some of the condos are in a rental pool. These accommodations generally need to be booked well in advance; but they are very nice and you shouldn’t hesitate to make a last-minute inquiry.
