Wabasso Beach to Boca Raton
Oct. 10-12 Southeast WABASSO BEACH TO STUART Capt. Gil Coombes of Smoke 'Em charters called to report the dolphin bite has been in 150 to 300 feet of water but that the big news has been the large quantities of blackfin tunas. Most are small but what's really exciting he says is the number of huge wahoo that have been coming up and biting them in half! He also reports the kings have been biting well between St. Lucie and Fort Pierce inlets in 80 to 90 feet of water. Expect sailfish activity to continue to increase once this unusually warm weather finally moves on. The mullet run is still in full swing along the beaches and this warm weather may even prolong it a bit. Bluefish are thick in the surf of course and there are still some reports of large redfish there as well. The big draw for many though is the great snook and tarpon action around the bait schools. Anglers throwing Flare Hawk jigs around the bridges at night are getting bites as well. Trout will be on the grass though the best of it will still be early in the morning until water temps cool further. JUPITER TO LAKE WORTH Thomas Farbrizio caught a sailfish and a keeper mutton on live mullet the other evening just before dark. He reports snook are still being caught from the north jetty at night but public access is difficult. Mutton and yellowtail snappers are still on the reefs off Juno in roughly 100 feet of water. A few dolphin have been reported well offshore along with large numbers of small blackfin tunas. It was dead on Lake Worth beach this morning (Thursday) but I know for a fact there have been a few keeper snook caught there this week. Strangely, there has been no bait but I thing once the winds pick up this weekend that situation will change quickly. There is also still a lot of activity in the ICW around the bridges with the best of it at night on a high outgoing tide. Tarpon will be hanging around the mouth of the inlet right at sunup. BOYNTON TO BOCA Long-time radio show listener Tom Dudek caught a 42 pound dolphin last week eleven miles from shore on a Billy Bait. It was part of a double header, the other fish was a bonito. There are also still large numbers of tiny blackfin tunas and skipjacks. The trick is to use very light tackle and just hope nothing big shows up. Expect kingfish action to improve greatly during the evening as the full moon fast approaches. Another listener, Karl Dahlborg, reports snook have been biting well the Ocean Avenue bridges at the change of tide. He likes to use small Saltwater Assassins and other soft plastics and says the trick is to work is low and slow. Both jetties at Boynton inlet have been packed with anglers catching bluefish, jacks, snook, and the occasional monster tarpon. Capt. Eden White 561 902 8170 By Capt.
