Wabasso Beach to Boca Raton
July 3-6 WABASSO BEACH TO STUART Strong west winds not only push out those violent storms, they also kill the dolphin fishing in close. The bright side has been the kingfish and snapper action on the reefs. There is a surprising number of sailfish present and every now and then a bonito like the ones so numerous down south will show as well. With the 4th of July this weekend expect lots of company so be out early. High speed trolling over Push Button Hill for wahoo is a good bet. Catching snook is like shooting fish in a barrel around the jetties right now and fish are in the surf as well. Anglers looking for something to eat will be finding whiting in the surf and trout and redfish in the grass. Live shrimp tend to be small this time of year so save the money and go with soft plastics instead. JUPITER TO LAKE WORTH Dolphin have been virtually non-existent but sailfish, blackfin tunas and of course tons of bonito are keeping rods bent all day long. Kingfish have been another daysaver since they are great both smoked and grilled. Mutton and yellowtail snapper have stayed strong provided that cold water isn’t a problem. West winds will often cause upwellings which can kill the action on the bottom for days. Live pinfish or Spanish sardines will catch snook in the inlets and there has also been a solid push of fish in the spillways, where live gizzard shad is the can’t-miss bait. Lane snappers and small muttons have been biting on the artificial reefs inside as well as around docks. Tarpon are being seen around Lake Worth inlet on the tide line. BOYNTON TO BOCA Bull sharks have been mixed in with the bonito as everything moves south. Cobia have been present still as well and sailfish are always a possibility. Bring along lots of block chum if you want yellowtails and have squid in case you run out of sardines. Wahoo, dolphin and blackfin tunas will be caught by trollers but again, expect lots of company. Snook in the spillways, from the bridges and the south jetty of Boynton inlet will still go ignored by many anglers who want something to eat. That camp will be targeting sand perch, black drum and sheepshead from the bridges. Live shrimp, cut clams and fresh cut shrimp are all great bait options. Tarpon will be active early in the morning.
