September 13-15

Snook season is off to a strong start this month. The mullet run has made finding bait very easy. Fishing live mullet around bridges, docks and mangroves will get plenty of action from snook, jacks, bluefish, redfish and seatrout. Tarpon fishing is good around the deeper channel edges, fishing larger live or dead mullet. Heavy tackle is recommended. Night fishing around the bridges has been excellent this week for snook and tarpon.

This week should be excellent once the weather lays down enough for us to get offshore. Mahi fishing will be excellent. Find a good weed line or hard edge and set out a trolling spread or drift live baits for good pelagic action. If you’re looking to bottom fish, mutton snapper fishing should be excellent following the storms. The Six and Eight Mile Reef, along with Loran Tower Ledge are great areas to catch snapper and grouper this time of year. Long leaders and large live baits will weed out smaller, unwanted bottom dwellers. Kingfish are around in the 70 to 90-foot depths. Trolling or drifting live baits or ballyhoo on planers will get plenty of strikes.
