Boat Review - Contender 24 Sport

For the boating family ready to join the Contender owner's fraternity, the Sport Series provides a great option to jump in head first and the Contender 24 Sport is a great introduction to the line. The entry level buyer who wants adaptability for family use, fishes hard, and doesn't want tradeoffs will find this model very attractive. As a family cruising vessel the forward seating combined with twin rider seats across the transom means everyone has a place to relax whether at rest or underway. The center console and T-top are nicely styled and manage not to over crowd the center deck space while still allowing room inside for an electric head. An important consideration for those not so serious days on the water is making everyone comfortable on board and the 24 Sport seating configuration manages this nicely on a boat her size.

By contrast, there are days when you'll be more sports minded and ready to engage in some serious fishing. The deck layout on the Sport Series doesn't give up fish-ability for comfort at all. Much like her larger cousins, this 24-footer is ready for a day offshore and many of the features you expect from a larger boat are condensed into this smaller package. A full workaround 360-degree deck layout large enough for a kite spread or trolling spread provides the foundation for a serious offshore campaign. The custom sport console with built-in helm pod along with a 26-gallon transom live well, a 376-quart insulated fish box, twin 236-quart storage compartments under forward seating, and the classic original style leaning post/rocket launcher all complement this entry level offshore package perfectly.

Contender has built a reputation on brand loyalty and many of their owners ultimately own more than one boat over the years, often stepping up through the line as their needs change. For the family new to the boating world looking to grow with their boat and work their way up through the ranks, the 24 Sport is certainly a worthy place to start.
