Boat Review - Blue Wave RS1 PureBay

If a mid-sized Bay Boat is on your wish list you've got plenty to choose from. Seminole, Oklahoma based Blue Wave Boats understands this and that's precisely why they are constantly tuning and evolving design features based upon the needs of their customers. Their Blue Wave RS1 represents a finely tuned deck layout on top of their "reduced surface" step hull that is a product of many years of boat building experience.

This model performed admirably running offshore in a very fast interval 2-3' chop and easily rode over anything we ran into on the coastal bay and river water without so much as a drop of water getting above the rub rail. The boat jumped onto plane quickly and rode on the step and pad running surface effortlessly without ever losing grip at speeds up to 50-MPH. The deck configuration is just as you'd expect on a Bay Boat designed with the serious fisherman in mind featuring a roomy forward casting deck with a large wide toe rail to keep you in the boat and abundant storage for rods, tackle, and insulated boxes for icing fish down all around. A slim footprint console really opens up the center cockpit space and despite the smaller profile manages to fit plenty of dash space, six (6) rod holders, and a 30-gallon, clear faced live well under the forward seat. Behind the helm the RS1 features a unique seating arrangement in their "Cyclone Post" helm station. Twin custom formed seats with handles that slide fore/aft, left/right, and rotate 360-degrees are very comfortable and practical to fish from in the seated position facing outboard to both sides of the boat. Beneath the seats is a 100-quart performance drink cooler on a sliding track as well. The rear casting deck features a full closed transom design behind a larger 40-gallon release well and companion jump seats with hidden tackle tray compartments located beneath. Two additional storage compartments and a large access hatch to the bilge accessories complete the rear deck.

This is a custom quality boat that rolls off the lot with a host of standard features that are normally considered upgrade options. Rigged with twin PowerPoles, a trolling motor, and two wells full of bait, this boat is a formidable adversary in the inshore or nearshore fishing arena. Blue Wave has been a leader in the Bay Boat market for years on the Texas Gulf coast but it shouldn't surprise anybody when you start seeing a lot more of them in coastal Florida waters and beyond.
