Boat Review - Buddy Davis 28 CC

Buddy Davis Boats offer the “Carolina Custom Boat” style to the outboard powered center console market in boats up to 42'. The Buddy Davis 28 CC is their “Gateway” to the Davis experience. This is a boat that will appeal to the offshore enthusiast who appreciates the beautiful curvy lines of the classic Outer Banks charter boats, yet wants a modern twist applied in the form of outboard power and 21st century construction standards. This may be the smallest boat in the Davis lineup but don't let that distract you from the fact that she is a boat that will give you a “big boat ride” and is built to handle some weather. The well thought out combination of a sharp forward entry, generous bow flare, and 24.5-degree deadrise aft, provide the soft and dry ride you expect from a much larger boat. The deck configuration and interior styling are more consistent with the larger inboard powered sportfish boats that she was inspired by and the “sportfish vibe” is evident at every turn.

Beginning in the cockpit, for anglers who prefer the traditional outrigger spread of trolled or live baits fished behind the motors, this is a pit designed with you in mind. A clean deck behind the helm features an open area free of clutter. Across the transom they include a gull wing style fish box lid that opens to a kill box. This style is very popular on Carolina charter boats due to its convenience for landing fish at the transom while you continue to fish a spread. Any larger quantity of fish can eventually be relocated to a massive insulated box below the deck in the bow. A large 45-gallon live well is incorporated into the helm station making it easy to access a bait without the need to drop to the deck. A tackle storage drawer located above the baitwell is handy for storing frequently used terminal items. The 28 CC is offered in an open foredeck for pure fishing or with seating forward for the casual angler who also likes to cruise. Forward seating provides a comfortable lounge area and also adds storage options as well. Plenty of dry storage is also available in the large console where you'll find room for a head as well as access to electrical systems featuring all coded wiring. The Helm area is very reminiscent of a larger sportfish boat as well with a vast area for installing electronics display screens and instrumentation. A very stylish hard top frame features AwlGrip paint on the tubing and glass which is convenient if a scratch ever requires repair since paint, unlike powder coating, is easy to touch up.

This boat like all Buddy Davis boats is completely customizable. The building experience can be coordinated every step of the way with the company to suit the needs of the buyer offering a real custom sportfish buying experience to the center console consumer.
