NauticStar 28XS

Longer range and comfort in rough seas best describes the capabilities of a center console 28- to 30- feet long. Many owners of this class of boat routinely take extended trips or cross the Gulf Stream to the Islands. Large twin outboards produce surprisingly fast speeds, which can be enhanced by some hull designs incorporating a step in the running surface.

With so many boats now having to take on dual rolls as an offshore fishing platform as well as a family cruiser, you can find many designs that include features for both. Beams over 9 feet are common which provide un-cluttered deck space, cavernous storage and rock-solid stability at rest. There's just no substitute for displacement with these large hulls. For towing, be sure to check your local laws for any road restrictions on width, because a wide load permit may be required.

Many boats today have to take on a dual roles of offshore fishing machine and family cruiser; the NauticStar 28XS was designed to do just that. The versatility starts at the bow with port and starboard fish boxes that double as seating, complete with backrest. You can opt for a filler and table to convert this area for sandbar picnics or a huge padded sun lounge. The center console has a large flat dash for flush-mounted electronics and houses a marine head. Captains seating, behind the helm, flips up to form a bolster and is incorporated into a fiberglass unit that has a built-in live baitwell, cooler storage and bait prep sink. The aft bulkhead includes a fishbox, additional live baitwell, transom door and foldout stern seating.
