With paddles whirling and creative minds at work, the kayak-fishing phenomenon shows no sign of slowing. At the 2015 International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trade, or ICAST, a 13-foot, thermoform kayak was voted overall Best of Show. That’s out of 24 different categories which ran the gamut from saltwater fishing reels, to marine electronics, to boat shoes. Manufacturer Eddyline, a first-time exhibitor at ICAST this year, entered its C-135 YakAttack edition in the Boats category of the New Product Showcase. The 69-pound, single-person kayak, tricked out for fishing, won the admiration of buyers and media who voted during a special preview event. The Showcase featured the cream of the crop from rod-builders, lure-makers, kayak manufacturers, clothing companies and more, reflecting a spirit of innovation evident across all aisles of the West Concourse at the Orange County Convention Center. Buyers and media—including Florida Sportsman staffers–voted on their favorite selections among a field of 889 products submitted by 270 companies. Awards were presented during at a reception sponsored by Costa. See the gallery below for the winners in each category.
“This year’s ICAST featured more new and different products than I’ve seen in the 20 years that I’ve been covering the show,” said Florida Sportsman Editor Jeff Weakley. “It was energizing to be there. With a kayak winning Best of Show, and a huge range of sportswear and giftware sharing space with rods and reels, we’re seeing how the joy and excitement of catching fish helps fuel diverse segments of our economies—not just here in the U.S., but around the world.”
