Fishing tourney to raise funds for colon cancer research.

Northeast Florida fishermen will help find a cure for colon cancer during the Eighth Annual Anglers for a Cure Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament on September 6. Proceeds benefit the Borland-Groover Clinic Foundation for Research and Education.

Anglers for a Cure was founded by Jordan Carroll and his close friend, Matt Hahnemann, to honor Carroll’s father, Doug, a local angler who passed away of stage IV colon cancer just 2 weeks after the inaugural tournament. To date, Anglers for a Cure has raised more than $70,000 to further colon cancer research and education.

The young men sought to combine their love of fishing with a fierce dedication to helping find a cure for a disease, which claims the lives of more than 50,000 Americans each year. If detected early enough, colon cancer is 90 percent curable.
