This past weekend the Florida Sportsman Forum Southeast community held its annual “Stupiter Bash” at Sandsprit Park in Stuart.

The 2014 Florida Sportsman Southeast Bash & Tournament held this past weekend at Sandsprit Park in Stuart went off without a hitch, raising $5,000 for the House of Hope Veterans Fund, Martin County Chapter. An annual tradition, this regional bash brings together members of the local FS community to meet one another, donate and win great prizes, and most importantly, give back to the community.

Despite the rain and wind that set in while raffling off prizes, Tournament Director Dave Meyer was pleased with the turnout and money raised, well exceeding his initial estimates.

“I think it went pretty well, during the awards ceremony the rain came up on us, but overall, I think we did very good – I’m pretty pleased with hitting the 5K mark!”

Of course, this is a fishing tournament, and there was no lack of great fish caught, measured, and weighed back at the scales – the winners taking home some fantastic prizes.

The fish of the day was undoubtedly a 46-pound dolphin that took the first place offshore prize, caught by Carl Fleming and Josh Oset of team Gameplan. Inshore, a 23 1/2-inch trout caught by Chris Whaler and a 39-inch snook caught by Steve Goethel took home the top prizes. In the “Dads and Kids” category, Matthew Whaler and his dad won the inshore division with a 31 1/2-inch snook, while Travis and his dad won the offshore division with a 4-pound dolphin.

A huge thanks to all the Florida Sportsman members who came out to help make the event a success and who donated prizes that were raffled off and put up for the silent auction. Capt. Melly B and Capt. Mike Conner both auctioned off half-day fishing charters, Mike Ellis of Relentless Sportfishing out of Venice, Louisiana auctioned off a yellowfin tuna adventure, and Bear Lakes Country Club in WPB auctioned off some golf course time, just to name a few!

Also, many thanks to all the great sponsors that provided the grand prizes and multiple raffle items: Evakool Coolers, Salt Life Sport Optics, Crowder Rods, Stuart Shooting Center, Slim Body Laser Spa, White’s Tackle, Dave Gates & Associates Real Estate, Dragonfly Graphics, and more.

A big thanks to Florida Sportsman magazine Publisher Blair Wickstrom for helping out during the whole event and snapping some photos, viewable in the slideshow below.
