Dogfish Tackle Company

Dogfish Tackle Company was established in 1985 by owner Bob Martin when he started selling tackle at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market.

Shortly after, Martin moved to their second location across from his favorite fishing spot, the Redington Long Pier.

Expansion was necessary again and in November of 2005, the Dogfish Tackle SuperCenter was opened.
Martin and longtime manager Capt. Dave Bayes credit their success to taking great pride in their product selection and striving to satisfy their customers’ fishing needs.

With the latest tackle, over 3,000 rods(including custom Dogfish Stik), over 300 different reels, cool old time fishing photos on the walls and a friendly, knowledgeable staff, it’s easy to understand Dogfish Tackle Company ‘s success.

I picked out a pole and it had a nice rubber cap on the bottom end of the handle of the pole. I set it by the counter to shop around. Young guy behind the counter said “I will set the pole behind the counter while you shop”. Bought the pole and my other items and when I went home I noticed the end cap was change out to a cheap-O style. The shady switch for a $2.00 item lost a customer.

That’s a shame. I too am a lost customer. Last year I purchased a Shimano Sustain 4000 and they said they would put braided line on for free. When I hooked my first large fish and it peeled out line I noticed 3/4 or more of the spool was loaded with mono. A $350 reel and they decided to save a dollar on line. Boo! Betts all the way!

They have gone from bad to worse, especially since moving off the beach. I have a couple dozen of their rods that need to go in the dumpster. I’m actually surprised their still in business.
