South Atlantic Fishery Management Council to Discuss Dolphin and Wahoo

Local meetings seek input from anglers on pelagic fishing

Stanna Allen of Lake Wales caught this 50-pound bull dolphin in 800 feet of water off Marathon last summer.

The South Atlantic Council’s series of meetings from New Bern, NC to Key Largo, FL to get input on two fishery plan amendments will continue today in Cocoa Beach and tomorrow in Key Largo. The Council is soliciting public input as part of the scoping process for Amendment 5 to the Dolphin Wahoo Fishery Management Plan.

The amendment would revise basic management tools, such as Acceptable Biological Catch (ABC), Annual Catch Limits (ACLs), sector allocations, and other values for dolphin and wahoo based on updated recreational estimates and other measures.

Written comments are also being accepted in the scoping process until 5:00 PM on February 4, 2013.

Of course, sector separation is just gummint's wordplay that allows mal-allocation for commercial purposes despite showings that regulations providing equal for all individuals are shown to be best for the most people.
