What’s your solution for protecting expensive flyreels and lines from salt spray, bumps and scratches? Florida Sportsman Members this week are sharing ideas on reel bags and cases, including the Velcro-enclosed nylon cases sold by Abel Reels. Also mentioned are neoprene bags.
Importantly, a few Members point out the risks of long-term storage in these products, due to the possible entrapment of moisture and salt and the subsequent corrosion of metal parts. Better to remove the line, thoroughly rinse the reel (soak in lukewarm water, suggests Permit Rat), properly grease the reel, and store it in open air on a clean, dry shelf.
