In the June issue of Florida Sportsman, we highlight angler Bob Demers in the I’m a Florida Sportsman section. Demers and his brother, Rick, are regulars to the backcountry waters of the Everglades. They’ve modified a pontoon boat into a mini-mothership for extended stays in the secluded waters. Check out some of their unique adaptions for this remote fishery in the photos below.
- Bob and Rick Demers use this pontoon boat for overnight campouts deep in Everglades National Park.
- The pontoon boat may be completely covered with canvas, with creature comforts for two anglers.
- Cots come out for sleeping.
- The brothers built two of these electric boats, which nest inside the pontoon boat mothership.
- The electric boats are made just like a surfboard, epoxy resin and fiberglass over foam. There’s a 1×6 wood insert glassed in the top with 1/4×20 s.s. T-nuts to attach the 4′x4′ deck. We designed a lite weight deck made of 1/4″ plywood using Kevlar cloth for strength [see photo of bottom of deck].
- Storage and sink on the mothership.
