A bow-mounted kayak camera caught an unusual scene offshore Siesta Key, Florida—a lost dog swam up to a kayaker while he was fishing near Point of Rocks. The dog was in distress and was said to have several cuts to its body.

The kayaker pulled the Hungarian Vizsla aboard the ‘yak and went in search of its owner at nearby boats. No owner was ever found, so the kayaker pedaled back to shore and tracked down the owner’s name via an ID chip at the vet office.

What the kayak angler couldn’t possibly have known at the time was that the dog’s owner had been struck and killed by a motorist while walking her dog earlier in the day. Sarasota woman Donna L. Chen was hit and killed by a drunk driver while walking her dog on a sidewalk. Read the news report here.
