Sometimes no matter the brand or style of fishing line you choose, it may seem like your line is breaking more often than not. Rather than immediately deciding that your brand, strength, or type of line choice has failed you, it is important to rule out other reasons why your line didn’t hold up in the heat of battle. Florida Sportsman member GrillaG has this very problem and decided to switch to braid, only to encounter line breakage once again. Florida Sportsman members chime in with their favorite brand choices, but also recommend checking various components of your rod and reel set-up such as rod guides and drag system, as well as making sure your knots have a high-breaking strength and are intended for your fishing line and leader of choice.
“So I was using your basic mono and it seems that every time I’ve hooked a big fish (something that pulls the drag out) eventually my line would break. Very frustrating. Heard some good things about braided line so I switched my favorite pole to braided line to see if this would help.
