Living on the Ledge

If you’ve ever fished offshore for grouper or snapper, you undoubtedly spent lots of hours staring at the depth-finder looking for a ledge that was holding fish. Successful inshore anglers are doing the same thing, just in micro-dimensions. In this episode of Shallow Water Angler, Blair Wickstrom fishes the ledges of a spoil bar where sand drops off to grass. These ledges create cover for bait fish, as well as ambush zones for predators.

And then we head offshore and fish the largest ledge of all, the continental shelf, for offshore pelagics. And if that’s not enough we head into the gulf and split the difference, from the largest of ledges and the smallest to the in-between. But it won’t be for ‘tweener size fish, we’ll be looking for fish the size of small cars.
