FIND also looking for lost manatee signs.

Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne pushed around everything that wasn’t securely anchored, including the bottom of the Intracoastal Waterway. The director of the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) is asking boaters who notice major depth changes to contact his office to help pinpoint areas of shoaling or deepening. The federal government has provided $3 million for a study of ICW contour changes and needed channel dredging.

“Also, if they find any floating manatee signs, rope them because we want them back,” David Roach said. About 100 such signs remain missing since the storm, and the district wants them back in place when the spring and summer fishing seasons begin.

Boaters can contact FIND at (561) 627-3386, or by e-mail at
